Portfolio Case & Sales Demo Bag for Home Exterior Samples

The Challenge

For many years, a manufacturer of home exterior solutions worked with one supplier for all their product case needs. While the supplier remains a valued partner, they reached capacity — with more technically challenging projects being pushed to the backburner. To keep projects from falling behind, the manufacturer sought another supplier to tackle some of these more technical custom case projects. An online search led them to Cases By Source.

The Response

The partnership began with what was originally intended to be a replication of a portfolio display case. Like the rings that paint companies use to display their different paint colors, the manufacturer used a similar tool to market the different colors for their siding and doors. By moving to offshore manufacturing, Cases By Source came back with a price that was well under the manufacturer’s target, allowing for more budget for improvements to the case.

Having this extra room in the budget proved to be even more valuable, as CBS soon realized that the design of the portfolio case would need to change out of necessity. The number of cards on the rings was increasing, which in turn caused increased thickness. CBS soon learned that there would be more cards added over time and others taken out. To create a scalable solution, CBS designed and developed plugs for the portfolio display case that could be added or removed. If the manufacturer added to the card stack, all they would have to do is pull out a plug to create more space. No more jamming card rings into little pockets.

Many times, the manufacturer’s portfolio display cases had been sent out to distributors as part of an entry door sales demo bag. So with the design of the portfolio display case changing, the manufacturer needed to make sure the new design fit into the sales demo bag. To this end, CBS raised the height of the bag by a few inches, added a divider, and increased the depth on the second side.

The Solution

With Cases By Source’s support, the manufacturer was able to produce a long-term solution for their portfolio display case — saving the time and costs of inevitable design changes down the road. At the same time, the manufacturer was able to quickly adapt their sales demo bag to work hand-in-hand with the new display case. All together, they ordered 5,000 new portfolio display cases and 2,500 new entry door sales demo bags.

Pleased with CBS’ ability to deliver cost-effective, innovative solutions in a timely manner, the manufacturer has reached out for subsequent projects. The next project involves upgrading the manufacturer’s metal roofing sales demo bag. The goal is to make the bag more lightweight, while ensuring that the siding samples don’t cause tearing. It’s a technical challenge that the team at CBS is ready to tackle.
